“I haven’t traveled a lot and I wanted to see other cultures and make memories,” said student Izzy Zalewski. The sophomore spent 10 days in April traveling the Alps and Mediterranean, including Switzerland, Italy, Monaco, France, and Spain, with the PCS Travel Club. Not many teenagers can say they spent spring break exploring Lake Como, seeing the spectacular views from atop a Swiss mountain, and visiting the picturesque French Riviera.
Izzy spent the weeks leading up to the trip researching the destinations, and was eager to finally see them in person. A highlight for her was taking a boat cruise in Cassis, a fishing port in southern France. The beautiful views of Cinque Terre, the centuries-old seaside Italian villages, was also memorable to Izzy. She loved the fresh food and markets she was exposed to during the trip.
“I was grateful that I got to go on the trip,” said Izzy. “It was an amazing experience and I’d go again.”
After visiting Belize last spring with Travel Club, freshman Astrid Bellamy was eager for this year’s trip, specifically Italy. The group traveled between destinations via trains and buses, and kept a strict itinerary in order to maximize the educational and cultural opportunities. Astrid was impressed with how well-organized the trip was, a testament to the hard work advisors Sarah McLaughlin and Erica Kramell put into planning the adventures.
“The last trip I had so much fun and I thought going to Europe would be a great experience,” she said. “I enjoyed being with my friends and all the activities.”
The trip started in Zurich, Switzerland with visits to the Lucerne, a historic city that acts as a gateway to the Swiss Alps, and the Lindt Chocolate Museum. Junior Tessa Koronas went into the trip, her first with Travel Cub, with no expectations. A highlight for her was riding a cable car to the top of Swiss mountains to see the stunning views.
“I was surprised at how busy the days were,” she said. “On the trip, I was tired, but when I got home, I missed the adventures instantly. I talked to my friends and they felt the same way. It was a nice trip overall.”
